Born Rival Magazine is a biannual print publication centered around analog photography, filmmaking, and visual storytelling. I began working with Born Rival during my internship, where I designed the first volume of the magazine from the ground up. Since then, I’ve continued working with the team on a freelance basis and designed Volume 02 as well.
The magazine is built around the people, places, and process behind image-making, so I wanted the design to give the photography room to lead. I developed the typography, layout system, image treatment, and overall visual direction across more than 200 pages, using a flexible structure that could stay consistent without making every spread feel the same. Negative space, pacing, and scale became especially important in balancing long-form stories with image-heavy sections and giving each feature its own rhythm.
